Postcards form a Backpacker

In 2005 an Englishman by the name of Mark Inns followed in the footsteps of explorers of old and embarked on an adventure that would see him circumnavigate the globe through the wilds of Africa round to the Rio Carnival in South America. Read about his adventures in the online diary and discover some of the journeys highlights.

The End (For Now)

Posted in Europe, United Kingdom, London

It’s all over after almost 18 months and a full lap of the globe I am back in England for the start of spring. Now I am back it does not seem that long ago that I was stood waiting at Heathrow, waiting to board my plane for Hong Kong almost one year ago to the day. It really has been a journey of a life time and has let me see the world and travel to some places I have always wanted to visit. I have no regrets only that I don’t have any more time or money to be able to keep going. Traveling has been the best thing I have done with my life so far and to have seen the sights and to have met the people along the way has been incredible.

People ask me where my favorite place was on my travels and there is not really any easy answer to that. I loved them all for many different reasons. If I had to say I think Africa was my favorite continent with its diversity of scenery, people and wildlife that I have not seen anywhere else on my travels. The beaches, lifestyle and food in Thailand makes the ‘land of smiles‘‚ as it’s know my favorite Asian destination. Australia and especially Sydney would probably be the easiest city outside of the UK for me to relocate to. It’s very much the same in many ways as the UK but with better weather (most of the time) and better beaches. Having spent a few months living in Sydney I could see myself living there quite easily in the future. South America has some amazing scenery and culture but still does not offer what Africa offers and does come across as an easier time.

As for me I now have the traveling bug. There are many places in the world I still have not seen and just one continent, Antarctica, left to visit one day. For now its time for me to settle back into normal life for a while or at least until I can save enough for the next time!
