Day 396

6 Months In Sydney

Posted in Pacific, Australia, Sydney

My time in Sydney is coming to an end. I’ve been living here for the past six months in Surry Hills close to Central Station. I have been in the same shared house for my time here and will miss the people who have come and gone during my time in the house. I will also miss all the friends I have made in the city, which has become to feel like a second home. During my first week I was not bowled over by Sydney as a city, having arrived in from Asia it felt as though something was missing. During my prolonged time here, I have been able to appreciate Sydney and what it has to offer. Sydney has become one of my favourite cities with its laid back attitude, mostly decent weather, (my impression of Australia as always being sunny and warm have been well and truly shattered). I move out of my house tomorrow having finished work last week at Jackgreen Energy. For my leaving do we went to the “trots”, a circuit for horse races pulling the rider in a 2 wheeled cart. It was a good night, being able to put a few bets on the horses and have a few drinks at the bar.

Tomorrow I start backpacking again. I am heading up the east coast to the white silica sand beaches and turquoise blue waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Sydney has become an easy place to live and I would consider moving back here another day, but its time for me to continue my journey. I’ve done what I came to do in Sydney and have managed to replenish my much depleted funds by a combination of saving up and my tax refund. I’m looking forward to seeing the other side of the world in South America. I have about a month until that trip starts and I begin the final leg of my journey. To date I have been travelling for over a year and am still having a great time. Any apprehension I had before I left has well and truly disappeared and I can’t wait to ‘get back on the road’ as it were.

Over the last few months I have not updated this website that often because I have been working and not moving about too much. Now I am off again and I will be updating my site on a more regular basis. So check back over the next couple of weeks to see how I get on in the Whitsunday’s and New Zealand.
